Lord of the Rings Rings & Things: The Three Elven Rings

Elven Rings

Elven Rings:
- Appear in The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King
- Narya, the Ring of Fire, was worn by Gandalf
- Nenya, the Ring of Water & Adamant, was worn by Galadriel
- Vilya, the Ring of Air, was worn by Elrond

The three Elven Rings that were forged and fashioned by Elven smiths who used knowledge that was given to them by a disguised Sauron. Unknown to them, he bound the rings to his One Ring of Power. When the Elves learned of this, they hid the rings and refused to wear them so that they would not be bent to Sauron's will. When the One Ring was lost by Isildur, they used the rings.

The three Elven rings were being worn and used in the time of Frodo and the End of the Third Age. Narya, the Ring of Fire, was worn by Gandalf. Nenya, the Ring of Water, was worn by Galadriel and she used it to protect Lothlórien from the effects of time. Vilya, Ring of Air, was worn by Elrond, who presumably used it to protect Rivendell.

In The Return of the King:
The Ringbearers of the three Elven rings left Middle Earth with the other Ringbearers when they all departed from the Grey Havens for the Undying Lands.
