Peter Jackson's Film Adaptation of The Two Towers:
The film opens with Gandalf.and the Balrog battling as they fall from the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. They fall into the abyss and then battle on the mountainside where Gandalf finally defeats the Balrog before succumbing himself.

Frodo and Sam travel through Emyn Muil. They catch Gollum and tame him. He agrees to become their guide. Meanwhile, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas are tracking the Uruk-hai that have Merry and Pippin. Saruman turns loose his Uruk-hai on Rohan. Éomer, nephew of King Théoden, returns to Edoras with the King's son, Théodred, who is mortally wounded. He also has evidence that it was Saruman's Uruk-hai. Because of this, Gríma, who has weakened King Théoden's mind, has him banished.

The Uruk-hai make camp and after an argument over fresh meat and the Hobbits. They are attacked by Rohirrim. The following day Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas encounter Éomer, who tells them that the Uruk-hai force has been destroyed. When Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas reach the remnants of the camp, they find evidence that the Hobbits fled into Fangorn Forest. In the forest, Grishnákh is still chasing Merry and Pippin when they unknowingly climb Treebeard, who then squishes the Orc.

Gollum leads Frodo and Sam through the Dead Marshes where Frodo almost drowns when he is drawn to the lights, but Gollum saves him. Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas have tracked Merry and Pippin into Fangorn Forest, where they encounter the White Wizard who turns out to be Gandalf. Gandalf says that the Hobbits are safe and the four then set out for Edoras. Frodo, Sam and Gollum have reached the Black Gate of Mordor, but Gollum stops Frodo from trying to get in by telling him that he knows a different way, a more secret into Mordor.

Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas arrive at Edoras. Gandalf breaks Saruman's spell over King Théoden and Gríma flees. Théoden decides to evacuate Edoras to Helm's Deep over Gandalf and Aragorn's council. Saruman receives a report from Gríma who has arrived at Isengard and he sends his Wargs to attack the retreating Rohirrim. Frodo and Sam are captured by Faramir after witnessing an ambush by the Gondorians on the Haradrim. The Wargs attack the Rohirrim and are repelled, but Aragorn goes missing and is presumed dead. The Rohirrim reach the safety of Helm's Deep. Saruman sends his army of Uruk-hai to attack Helm's Deep.

 
Faramir learns that Frodo and Sam set out from Rivendell. He tells them that Boromir is dead. He guesses about the One Ring and in spite of Sam's pleading, he decides to take them and the Ring to Osgiliath. He forces Frodo to bait Gollum, so he can be captured. This turns Gollum against Frodo. The Uruk-hai army arrives at Helm's Deep and begins its attack., eventually breaching the wall. Treebeard and the Ents decide not to get involved with the coming war. Pippin asks Treebeard to take them south nearby Isengard, where Treebeard sees the harm to the forest that Saruman has been doing. He calls forth the Ents.

Faramir with Gollum, Frodo and Sam arrives at Osgiliath, which is under attack. Frodo nearly hands over the Ring to the Nazgûl before Sam stops him. Faramir now lets them go, forfeiting his own life by doing so. The Ents attack and overrun Isengard, trapping Saruman and Gríma in the Tower of Isengard. King Théoden begins to despair because the Hornburg itself is about to be breached, but Aragorn, remembering Gandalf's promised arrival, convinces him to ride out in one last charge. As they ride out, Gandalf arrives with Éomer and his force of Rohirrim and overrun the Orc army. As they make their way back into Ithilien, Gollum decides to lead Frodo and Sam to "her" to get around his promise not to hurt Frodo.
