Gríma Wormtongue is King Théoden of Rohan's advisor. He has been bought by Saruman with the promise of having Eowyn when Rohan falls. He has used his position to weaken the King and blind to the encroachment of Saruman. Éomer arrives at Edoras bearing the King's dying son, Theodred. When he challenges Gríma over the attacks of Saruman's Uruk-hai, Gríma banishes him.
Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and Gandalf arrive at Edoras and undermine Gríma's control of the court. Gandalf drives out Saruman's influence of King Théoden. After learning of Gríma's deceptions, the King gives Gríma a choice to join him in battle or to leave. Gríma chooses to leave with one last curse for Rohan. Gríma soon turns up at Isengard just as Saruman is sending his army of Uruk-hai out to destroy Rohan. Later, Gríma finds himself trapped with Isengard with Saruman as the Ents attack and destroy Saruman's war machines.
In The Return of the King: The Extended Edition:
Gríma Wormtongue throws the Palantir out. Later, when Saruman belittles him, he stabs Saruman with a dagger. Legolas immediately fells him with an arrow.
