Gandalf goes to Isengard to finish up with Saruman. He then returns to Edoras. After Pippin's experience with the Palantir, Gandalf takes him to Minas Tirith. He stops Denethor from abandoning the city's defenses. He rides out onto the Pelennor Fields and chases off the Nazgûl, who are harassing the retreating forces from Osgiliath. Gandalf commands the city's defenses during the Battle of Pelennor Fields. After Pippin wanrs him, Gandalfgoes to the Tombs of the Stewards to rescue Faramir from being burned alive by Denethor. Gandalf rides with Aragorn to the Black Gate of Mordor. He goes to Mt. Doom with the Eagles to pick up Frodo and Sam. He returns to Minas Tirith for Aragorn's coronation. A few years later, he returns to Hobbiton with Bilbo to pick up Frodo. They travel to the Grey Havens and sail into the West with the other Ringbearers.
