Mordor is the realm of Sauron. It lies just to the east of Gondor. When Sauron's power grows, his influence grows and an ever-growing portion of eastern Gondor falls under his rule. It is into Mordor and Mt. Doom that Frodo must take the One Ring to destroy it.
