Pippin then takes the Palantir from Gandalf and is seen by Sauron. Merry bids farewell to Pippin in the Edoras Stables when he is about to leave with Gandalf. When they arrive at Minas Tirith, He goes with Gandalf before Denethor in the High Court. He ends up pledging himself to Denethor's service to repay the debt of Boromir's death at Amon Hen. After Denethor refuses to signal for Rohan's aid, Gandalf sends Pippin up to light the Beacon in Minas Tirith.

Gandalf takes Pippin out onto the Pelennor Fields when he chases off the Nazgûl, who are harassing the retreating forces from Osgiliath. Pippin discovers that Denethor is planning to burn himself and Faramir in the Tombs of the Stewards. He goes and gets Gandalf and ends up pulling Faramir to safety. He and Merry go to the Black Gate of Mordor with Aragorn. They return to Minas Tirith for Aragorn's coronation in the courtyard by the White Tree. He and the other Hobbits return to The Shire and share a drink at the Green Dragon. A few years later, he goes with the other Hobbits to the Grey Havens to see Frodo and the other Ringbearers sail into the West.
