The Lord of the Rings Middle Earth Places: Parth Galen

Parth Galen

Parth Galen:
- Appears in The Fellowship of the Ring

Parth Galen is located on the western side of Nen Hithoel, the lake formed by the River Anduin. The Fellowship takes rest there. While the others argue about the route to take and whether to go to Gondor first or make for Mordor directly, Frodo slips away. Boromir quietly follows. When the others notice, it is too late. Boromir has spooked Frodo and the Uruk-hai have attacked.

After Merry and Pippin create a diversion to ensure Frodo's escape from Parth Galen, Boromir arrives to save them from the Uruk-hai. However, he is felled by Lurtz and Merry and Pippin are captured. Aragorn then arrives and slays Lurtz. Boromir apologizes to Aragorn for trying to take the One Ring and pledges his allegiance his king before he dies of his wounds.

Frodo doubles back to the boats and tries to set out on his own, but Sam insists on joining him. Aragorn stops Gimli and Legolas from attempting to follow Frodo and Sam across Nen Hithoel. They then prepare Boromir's body for a final trip down the River Anduin.
