Faramir In The Two Towers:
Faramir and his force of Ithilien Rangers from Gondor capture Frodo and Sam after a successful ambush on Haradrim who are marching to join Sauron in Mordor. He is suspicous of them and soon learns that they were with Boromir and that his brother and Frodo were not on good terms. He then reveals that Boromir has been killed. He even has Boromir's cloven horn. In a flashback, he remembers the day that Boromir left Osgiliath for Rivendell. We see that their father, Denethor, thinks little of Faramir.

Faramir forces Frodo to bait Gollum out of the Forbidden Pool so he can capture him. He learns of the Ring and Sam shames him by telling him that the Ring corrupted Boromir. He then decides to take Frodo and the Ring back to Gondor to his father rather than allow Frodo to continue his task.

In Osgiliath, Faramir witnesses Frodo give into the Ring and almost hand it over to the Nazgûl before Sam stops him. Faramir drives it off by wounding its Winged Beast with an arrow. Now, Faramir finally releases Frodo, Gollum and Sam and by doing so, forfeits his own life by the law of the land. He also has one final threat for Gollum.
