Gwaihir, the Windlord:

In The Fellowship of the Ring:
Gwaihir comes and rescues Gandalf from the top of the Tower of Orthanc just as Saruman is about to throw Gandalf over. He also comes and bears Gandalf away from the peak of Zirakzigil after Gandalf finally defeats the Balrog.
In The Return of the King:
Gwaihir leads the Eagles when they appear at the Black Gate of Mordor and battle the Winged Beasts. Gwaihir again carries Gandalf and leads several other Eagles to Mount Doom where they pick up Frodo and Sam.
