I had at one time included this movie in my fantasy area. It actually seemed like a good match with Excalibur. I know this movie is supposed to be based heavily on fact including the lead character of William Wallace, but most stories from the Middle Ages take a historic figure and add mythical events to create the legend. It has been admitted that some of the events of the movie are fictional or conjecture at best, but it's still a good epic.

Mel Gibson does a good job as director and actor of bringing the story and character of William Wallace alive. The movie doesn't follow the Hollywood formula of meet a girl, lose her, win her back and live happily ever after. It instead chooses to make us see events that we'd rather not and thus turns up the emotion further. This movie is pretty gritty to be considered fantasy, but it's a good epic movie with plenty of sword fighting.
