Haldir In The Fellowship of the Ring:
Haldir first appears as the Fellowship enters Lothlórien. He is leader of border patrol parties of Elves. He trades barbs with Gimli and refuses to admit a Dwarf to the sacred Elven realm. Only after word arrives from Galadriel ording the admittance of the entire Fellowship does he relent. As the Fellowship leaves Lothlórien, he admits that Gimli has earned his grudging respect with his kind words towards Galadriel.
