Webisode 6 Recap:
(Caption: Raptor 1029; Search & Rescue Mission )
A Raptor jumps into normal space.

Racetrack takes a look around and says that there's nothing. She then apologizes to Hoshi. He responds, "Spin the dial."

The Search & Rescue Raptor jumps.

Back on the Raptor, the computer status indicates less than nine and a half hours of oxygen remaining.

Finnegan can be seen sleeping as Gaeta also sleeps.

Flashback #1 - Montage:
Hoshi and Gaeta shakes hands and then hug in Galactica CIC. Hoshi bids Gaeta good-bye and says that he'll be waiting just before Gaeta left Galactica on the Zephyr shuttle. Civilian Eight looks at Gaeta as she asks if he recognizes her. Gaeta turns the pliers over as Brooks can be heard saying, "Oh great, skinjobs." Pilot Eight lies on the Raptor deck with her eyes staring lifelessly after she was electrocuted. Ensign Esrin looks up. Lt. Finnegan looks on in his full flightsuit. Specialist Brooks' lifeless hand holds the empty morpha needle.

Gaeta wakes up.

Gaeta sees that civilian Eight is out of the shackles. He asks if she got out of them alone. She responds by asking if he wants to tie her up again. Gaeta answers that he doesn't and that he was going to untie her. Gaeta looks back at the front of the Raptor and civilian Eight asks him not to wake them. He sits down, pulls out the scalpel, holds it out for her and says that she's the way home. She takes the scalpel from him.

Gaeta plugs in a cable to the FTL drive.

Civilian Eight cuts open the palm of her left hand. She groans in pain. She asks Gaeta to put the cable in. He struggles to push it in as she says that she's getting "light-headed." She says that she's trying to project, but the lack of oxygen is making it difficult. Gaeta wants to know why she's projecting. She says that he knows where she is.

Flashback #2:
Back in the tent on New Caprica, civilian Eight and Gaeta kiss.

Back on the Raptor, civilian Eight tries to kiss Gaeta. Gaeta tells her that he's with someone now. She says, "Good. You deserve it." They look at each other and then start to kiss. She stops and says, "Found it." She says that she found the corrupted memory address. She tells him to get ready to jump because she's taking them home.

Gaeta looks toward the front of the Raptor and then back at civilian Eight.

Analysis:
  • Civilian Eight managed to escape the shackles on her own.
  • Civilian Eight seems hung up on Gaeta since she chose to project back to their kiss on New Caprica.
  • Civilian Eight has successfully interfaced with the computer and discovered the corrupted memory address.

#2:
Back in the tent on New Caprica, civilian Eight and Gaeta kiss.

Notes:
  • Running time: ~4:00
  • According to Jane Espenson's podcast commentary, the original script had the Six (before she was replaced by an Eight for availability reasons) and Gaeta going further than just a kiss. As a result, the idea was to have a reflection of the spine glow be glimpsed in that particular New Caprica flashback. However, they eventually decided to leave it at a kiss.

Unanswered Questions:
  • How did civilian Eight get out of the shackles?
  • Was Gaeta willing to pursue a liaison with civilian Eight once it was clear that she didn't expect any emotional attachment?
  • Can civilian Eight get them 'home' after having jumped beyond the red line?
