More than twenty years after playing Wyatt Earp in Hour
of the Gun, James Garner portrayed an aged Wyatt Earp who had moved
to Hollywood. While the friendship between early Western actor Tom Mix and Wyatt
Earp was accurate, the film's story is fictional. Director Blake Edwards, best
known for his comedies, tries film noir here with some success.
