Annia Aurelia Galeria Lucilla was born around 148 AD as the second daughter to Marcus Aurelius and Faustina the Younger. Her younger brother was Commodus. In 164 AD, she married Marcus' adoptive brother and co-emperor Lucius Veras. In 169 AD, she was widowed when Lucius Veras died. Annia Lucilla did not remain a widow, but married to the older Tiberius Claudius Pompeianus Quintianus of Antioch, who had been consul twice.

Having once been Augusta, wife of an Augustus, she was not satisfied with a lower station. In 182 AD, she was involved in a plot with her cousin, the former consul Marcus Ummidius Quadratus, to assassinate Commodus and raise her husband up as Emperor. The assassin was Pompeianus' nephew. The attempt was thwarted and the conspiracy unraveled. Commodus exiled Annia Lucilla to the island of Capri, but soon quietly ordered her execution.
