I still think the way that Alec Baldwin portrayed Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October is the way that Tom Clancy wrote the character. He was an analyst, not used to action. They then handed the franchise off to Harrison Ford and treated Jack Ryan like another action hero. Patriot Games was just another shallow action movie and bore little in common with the book.

The Hunt for Red October is not a typical action movie. There is quite a bit of plot and a lot of characterization beyond the Jack Ryan character. The movie has humor, intelligence and a great claustrophobic feel while on the submarines. If you want a movie that has action, plot, humor and characterization, so that you are interested in the fate of the characters, then check this movie out. It's the most complete movie adapted from Tom Clancy's books. original content and design Copyright © 1999- Scott Cummings, All Rights Reserved. Privacy Statement.
