Mrs. Howard doesn't have many scenes. In fact, she doesn't get a first name, even in the end credits. Her one big scene involves the tradition of bundling bags. While the militia is in town to get supplies, Gabriel comes over to visit Anne. To prevent any fooling around, Mrs. Howard sews Gabriel up in a bundling bag, so that only his head is unsecured. This is the only time that Peter Howard demonstrates the caution or worry of a father of a young daughter, but the fact that they gave Gabriel and Anne permission to spend the evening together at all shows that they approve of the courtship.
