Charlie's need to pay for his habit resulted in his scoping out Lucy. He used his status as a "rock god" to move on her. He genuinely began to like her and her family. Lucy's father got Charlie a job as a copier salesman and Lucy bought Charlie a new suit. However, Charlie was suffering from withdrawals, broke down and stole an expensive antique. When Charlie comes back to talk to her, she understands why he stole from her father because of his addiction. For that, she pities him, but she is also angry because he had taken the job.
