Hannah Montana - The Movie
Hannah Montana: The Movie

From Walt Disney Home Entertainment:
Being a superstar as well as a normal teenager is getting even more complicated for Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus). Her crazy double life as pop sensation Hannah Montana is taking its toll on the teen and her family. So Miley's dad, Robby Ray Stewart (Miley's real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus) decides a visit to the family farm in Tennessee to celebrate Grandma Ruby's (Margo Martindale) birthday will bring his little girl back down to earth. Far away from the bright lights and the big city, Miley reconnects with childhood friend Travis (Lucas Till).

Their budding romance, along with the love of her family and friends, gives Miley some much-needed perspective on life. But when her pushy publicist (Vanessa Williams) comes calling and a smarmy reporter (Peter Gunn) tries to dig up the dirt on Hannah, Miley is forced to make the hardest decision of her life.

PatriotResource.com Review:
Disney's Hannah Montana moves from television to the theaters with The Movie. Mostly thanks to having a preteen daughter, we've been exposed to the Hannah Montana phenomenon. Obviously, she was thrilled with the movie and even knew the songs (and the dance) before ever actually seeing the movie thanks to Disney Channel's marketing. We, on the other hand, had managed to avoid all the hype. When we sat down to watch the film, we were pleasantly surprised to find the storyline, acting and production on a par with most films. "Getting back to one's roots" is a favorite Hollywood plot and Hannah Montana: The Movie does a more-than-serviceable job.

Thanks to a subplot involving Robby Ray (Billy Ray Cyrus), there is a little something for adults, but this is essentially a teen film. That said, there was surprisingly little cringe-worthy acting and most of the gags were standard fare found in adult comedies. There were a couple of big plot holes (to us anyway) toward the end involving a single celebrity reporter and the tidy way an entire cell-phone-toting audience agreed to "keep a secret." Then again, the idea that no one would realize that Hannah Montana and Miley Stewart are one and the same is far-fetched to begin with, so plot holes aren't going to shatter the illusion of the reality of Hannah Montana's world.

What we found surprising is that we actually found some of the music (mostly the country-influenced tunes) catchy. That's the difference between Hannah Montana and the rest of Disney's teen lineup - the music. To sum up, Hannah Montana is standard Disney fare and basically sells itself thanks to its franchise, but is better fare than a lot of Hollywood films. The DVD includes a handful of features again geared toward a teenage audience. The director sets up deleted scenes. Jason Earles (Jackson Stewart) hosts a behind-the-scenes featurette that defines some of the production crew's duties on a film and the cast give "tours" of their own hometowns.
