- George Washington becomes surveyor of Culpepper County.

- George Washington goes to Barbados with his half-brother Lawrence.

- George Washington returns from the West Indies.
- George Washington's half-brother Lawrence dies and he becomes executor of Mount Vernon.

October - George Washington is sent to Fort Le Boeuf.

March - George Washington is promoted to Lt. Colonel.

May 28 - George Washington defeats a French and Indian force at Great Meadows, Pennsylvania.
