April 11 - Congress announces end of hostilities.
April 15 - Congress ratifies preliminary peace treaty with Britain.
September 3 - The Treaty of Paris is signed by America, Britain, France, Spain and The Netherlands, ending the Revolutionary War.
November 11 - Annapolis, Maryland becomes capital of United States.
November 25 - Last British soldier evacuates New York City.
December 23 - General George Washington resigns his commission in the Continental Army.
