1777
August 6 - New York militia are defeated at Oriskany, New York by Indians led by Joseph Brant.
August 9 - Lt. Colonel Friedrich Baum leads his detachment east toward the Connecticut Valley.
August 10 - Brig. General Benedict Arnold leaves for Fort Stanwix with relief troops.
August 11 - Lt. Colonel Baum marches from Fort Miller to Batten Kill.
August 13 - Lt. Colonel Baum marches to Cambridge.
August 14
9:00 A.M. - Lt. Colonel Baum and Brig. General John Stark make contact outside Bennington.
Evening - Colonel Seth Warner receives orders to join Brig. General Stark.
August 15
Dawn - Maj. General John Burgoyne receives Lt. Colonel Baum's request for reinforcements.
9:00 A.M. - Lt. Colonel Heinrich Breymann leaves with reinforcements for Lt. Colonel Baum.
Evening - Colonel Warner reaches Brig. General Stark's camp at Bennington.
August 16 - Brig. General Stark defeats Lt. Colonel Baum at Bennington
12:00 P.M. - Brig. General Stark begins maneuvering his troops.
3:00 P.M. - Brig. General Stark begins his attack.
4:30 P.M. - Lt. Colonel Breymann's reinforcements reach the outer edge of the battle
5:00 P.M. - Lt. Colonel Baum's men surrender.
Dusk - Lt. Colonel Breymann runs out of ammunition and is forced to retreat.
August 19 - Maj. General Horatio Gates assumes Northern Department Continental Command.
August 21 - Brig. General Arnold arrives at Fort Dayton, New York.
August 23:
Morning - Lt. Colonel Barry St. Leger begins his retreat from Fort Stanwix back to Canada.
Evening - Brig. General Arnold arrives at Fort Stanwix.
September 12 - Maj. General Gates marches from Stillwater to Bemis Heights near Saratoga.
September 13 - Maj. General Burgoyne gathers supplies and crosses the Hudson River.
September 16 - Maj. General Burgoyne makes camp after hearing the American reveille drums.
September 17 - Maj. General Burgoyne advances another three miles.
September 18 - Maj. General Burgoyne makes a reconnaissance in force.
